Not being American, I don’t really get the whole pumpkin pie thing.

Where I’m from (Ireland), when someone says “pie” they usually mean something savoury.

these make good, thoughtful, inexpensive gifts

it makes for a good, thoughtful, inexpensive gift if you package it up all fancy

(usually stuffed with steak and Guinness and hot, bubbling, salty gravy….oh man, now I’m hungry)

But that doesn’t mean I can’t totally get behind the idea of a cinnamon-based spice mix that’ll work in just about any dessert context from pies to breads to puddings to cakes.

DIY Pumpkin Pie Spice (makes 4 tbsps)

  • 2 tbsps cinnamon
  • 2 tsps ginger
  • 2 tsps nutmeg
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • a pinch of cardamon
  • a pinch of coconut palm sugar (optional)
  1. Mix all the above together and store in a sealed container.
