Blueberry Avocado Power Smoothie

health in a glass!

health in a glass!

My belly likes a lot of things (it’s embarrassingly tolerant) but lately I’ve found that breakfast is not one of them.

Even a cup of bone broth in the morning was making me feel pukey (thanks to the kind reader on facebook who suggested having a glass of lemon water beforehand – it helped).

Like the rest of me, it takes my digestive system a bit of time to get fully operational in the mornings.

That’s why I’ve started to suck down smoothies before starting the day. They’re quick, nutritious and much easier to eat than a full meal of eggs.

I’m not given to hyperbole usually but this gets the title of ‘power’ smoothie because it gives you superpowers.

Only kidding.

It’s full of goodness though – protein in the form of plain yoghurt (full fat please!) and healthy fats in the form of avocado, coconut oil and nut butter.

Oh and it tastes all kinds of yummy too.

Blueberry Avocado Power Smoothie (serves 2)

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 apple, cored and diced
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 1 cup water or coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup plain, full fat yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  1. Blend all the above together until smooth. Drink.

  1. Yuuum! Great idea to have a smoothie when your belly’s being a bit sleepy and precious. I like that you’ve added coconut oil for a bit of a nutritional boost. I’m in love with that stuff at the moment. Great post 🙂

    • I’d use goat milk kefir or coconut yoghurt Lisa. If neither of those appeal just use a non-dairy milk and a banana to give you the thickness that would otherwise be provided by the yoghurt. The great news is that you can’t really go wrong with a recipe like this – it’ll still taste amazing!
